We’re supporting a Tokyo-based deep-tech startup building a graph + neuro-symbolic reasoning engine for enterprise, safety-critical domains — on-prem, auditable, controlled.
What you’ll do:
Contribute to the development of a distributed reasoning system.
Design, build, and maintain core backend services, libraries, and system components.
Take ownership of key engineering artifacts, ensuring their reliability, scalability, and performance.
Work on systems that understand, process, and reason about programming languages.
Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams on architecture, implementation, and product decisions.
Participate in building infrastructure for code processing, automated reasoning, and AI-driven engineering workflows.
Requirements:
5+ years of experience in software engineering. At least 2 years of experience with Rust.
Strong background in backend development and scalable system design.
Experience with distributed systems, AI/ML infrastructure, scalable web systems, or similar complex technical domains.
Solid understanding of software engineering fundamentals, system architecture, and production-grade development practices.
Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.
Ability to take ownership of complex technical components and deliver high-quality results.
Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
English proficiency at C1 level or higher.
Proactive mindset, curiosity about AI advancements, and commitment to continuous learning.
Nice to Have:
Experience working in startups or fast-paced product environments.
Experience with automated reasoning, code intelligence, developer tools, or AI systems.
Background in AAA game development or other highly complex software environments.
Experience with C++ or Python is a strong plus.
Conditions:
Target salary range is 16-22M JPY (~$105k–145k) gross per year.
